Song & Lyrics: Hiking Katahdin

Song & Lyrics: Hiking Katahdin

They say write what you know.

I had the pleasure and honor of summiting Mount Katahdin fall 2017 with my partner Jim.  I took on that challenge (and journey) to honor my Dad, Allan Dale, who died Feb. 21st, 2017.

Katahdin is considered one of the hardest parts of the Appalachian Trail (of which I have only hiked sections).

The whole experience was amazing so very humbling. Love you Dad.

Hiking Katahdin

(c) 2018 Music & Lyrics by Andrea Dale

Hiking, Hiking up Katahdin,
Getting up and down the trail in a day
I see, I see mountain in the distance
I feel the wind against my face, past the tree line
Determination drives my footsteps
I am so ready to kick butt this day, let’s play!

Chorus:
Make your way up the mountain trail
Don’t turn back, you won’t bail
Navigate the boulders on Hunt Spur
Feel your muscles shake and flail
You’ll get done before the wolf calls.
We'll summit Mount Katahdin through it all.

I tried, I tried this six years ago
Turning back so mad, when sleet arrived
But Today, Today I am taking on this challenge
Prepared with sweat and muscle, for this mission
Excitement builds as we step out
My heart speeds up in overdrive, let’s fly

CHORUS

Facing, I am facing my fears on steep trails
Leaning in the wind, on exposed rocky shear
Pulling, Pulling myself up rock walls
Jumping rock to rock with just my poles and wits
We’ve got to reach the top by turnaround time.
Or it's turn back and wait another year. No beer!

Chorus

Hiking, Hiking up Katahdin,
Getting up and down the trail in a day
I see, I see mountain in the distance
I feel the wind against my face, past the tree line
Determination drives my footsteps
I am so ready to kick butt this day, let’s play!
